Giant Reed Flute-Making Workshop

Join us at the delightful “Turquoise” in Bluff (part of the Bluff Community Foundation) for a traditional Japanese flute-making workshop led by the master craftsman, Shuhou Sakurai. Embrace the opportunity to dive into the universal joy of music and sound under the guidance of Shuhou, who is renowned for his handmade flutes. The lecture promises to captivate audiences of all ages, from children to adults, as they immerse themselves in the exploration of the flute’s origins.

To participate in this workshop only, a fee of $10 is required.
If you are also taking part in the construction project, an additional event participation fee applies for the day. During the construction project, you can get hands-on and engage in creative activities. Those joining the project will need to pay the event fee in addition to the workshop participation fee.

🌟 Concert with Instruments Crafted by You
Experience the profound realm of music with the melodic sounds of flutes crafted by your own hands in this workshop. To participate in the performance, you must take part in our bamboo flute-making workshop.
The unique sounds emanating from each individually crafted flute promise to resonate with a special kind of magic. Accompanied by local musicians joining the performance, expect the communal joy akin to a local festival!
The concert will take place during the dinner party on the final day. The beautiful tones produced by the flutes crafted by all participants will fill the venue with a warm ambiance. Alongside flute performances, we have invited numerous musicians to celebrate the conclusion of our two-week event with a fun and festive dinner. Come together to showcase and celebrate the fruits of your creative efforts.

🌾 Learn the Art of Sushi Rolling with Rice Farmers, the Minowas
Join us at the Firemesa Kitchen, a product of the DBU 2018 Project, to make sushi rolls hand in hand with a couple of rice farmers. Through this workshop, you’ll have the chance to appreciate the importance of agriculture from various perspectives and forge a new connection with nature.
Why not spend a nourishing time both for body and soul, relishing the joy of nurturing food with your own hands and discovering how our meals are created?
Join us for a workshop that celebrates the journey ‘from soil to table,’ and rediscover the significance of food. 🍚
After the fun hands-on experience in the workshop, it’s time for a potluck-style dinner. Bring along the sushi you’ve made, and share it with others! There’s a special joy in sharing the sushi you’ve crafted with friends. Savor samples of various sushi brought by everyone, and enjoy a moment of fellowship and deeper connections.
